We are Our Derelict Dream!
Hi! We're Emily, Lee & Hudson, and we've been living in rural Bulgaria since 2019. If you've been following our Youtube channel you will be aware that we have two renovation projects on our hands! We are learning as we go and sharing our experience with you, as well as providing advice for those also looking to find their own derelict dream!
2019
In 2019 we purchased our first property after a whim holiday to Veliko Tarnovo and fell in love with the area! We had been researching 'property under 10K in Europe' which first led us to Bulgaria, after previously living in Malta and Thailand we were used to living abroad. We knew we had to get it done and residency sorted before Brexit hit so we didn't have the time to research the whole country, however we feel we landed on our feet with a great property in a wonderful village - and stunning scenery.
This property didn't have a kitchen or bathroom, but it did have running water and electrics. So far we have made it temporarily liveable with 2020 focussing on getting the house baby ready and safe and warm for winter!
2020
Hudson came along at the end of 2020, and Lee had worked hard to renovate a warm bedroom (where our fridge also lived!) to spend the winter months, mostly. It was hard having to go outside to then go back into the kitchen or bathroom (as we do not have adjoining rooms), so we knew that the next plan would be an extension to help contain the space indoors.
We are still working on that construction as you'll read on and understand why that project halted for a while...
2021
We hibernated for the early part of 2021 as you can imagine with a new baby, then Spring came and work could get started again.
An unplanned purchase of a second property in a nearby village came at the end of 2021, and an amazing opportunity!
Initially the plan was that we were to renovate and use this as a future investment either for rental market or sell if we needed to. However we have now come to realise that this new property is a preferable option for our future home..so plans have changed!
Although the houses are not too dissimilar, it is the garden space in the new property that is more suited to a little one running around and we can get cracking with growing our own food with already an abundance of fruit trees and grapevines!
2022
Wow, this year went FAST! And just like our minds..we changed them again. So, the newer property is now up for sale, along with other properties of neighbours and acquaintances. We are so thrilled to be able to start helping people find their derelict dream! So do check out our property listings page and youtube video tours for some real gems!
We celebrated Hudson's second birthday at the end of the year, and looking forward to a new 2023 with continued work on our home (maybe we'll just get a bathroom finally)!
2023
We are so proud to say that we launched ourselves this year from vloggers to property agents! We have had a wonderful year showcasing Bulgarian rural properties and are delighted to have connected some amazing clients with their own dream properties!
The end of 2023 has brought change for us, with Hudson turning 3 we have decided to move and purchase a new property closer to the city (still rural, and a fantastic derelict project as you can see!), so we can be nearer other children and access to schools for his future.
Excited for what 2024 will bring!
